The answer is fairly simple. Our house is named after the pond which lies just outside the garden, on a public common. However, all the web domains around ‘pondhouse’ were already taken so we cast around for something else. At the time, a newly-acquired puppy called Pepper was dominating the household (and still does), so it became ‘pepperhouse’.
The story behind the house name is quite charming. It’s interesting how the pond inspired the initial idea, but the puppy took over. Naming it “pepperhouse” feels personal and meaningful. The puppy must be quite a character. Why did the pondhouse domains get taken so quickly?
